THE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY

DROP-CAP BOOK COVER

These drop-cap book covers perfectly summarize the stories of The Hunger Games trilogy. The goal of the book covers was to illustrate the plot line in one drop-cap illustration. This was successfully done in Adobe Illustrator using various tools and by having an in-depth knowledge of the storyline and characters.

The letter for the cover of The Hunger Games is an “H” for the title of the book. The stems of the “H” are flames as a representation of the girl on fire, Katniss Everdeen. The crossbar of the “H” is an arrow because that is Katniss’ weapon of choice for hunting and during the games. The title and author are in a small neutral font as to not distract from the illustration.

The letter for the cover of Catching Fire is a “C” for the title of the book. The stress of the “C” is a wire and the terminal is an arrow. The imagery is an important key to one of the final scenes of this book. It also represents rebellion which is the theme for this book. The title and author are in a small neutral font as to not distract from the illustration.

The letter for the cover of Mocking Jay is an “M” for the title of the book. The structure of the “M” is made out of white roses. A white rose is the symbol used to represent President Snow throughout the books. There is blood splattered on the roses to represent the death and destruction that was caused because of Snow’s leadership and rule. The white and the red also show the contrast of purity and death because that is a common theme in the books. The title and author are in a small neutral font as to not distract from the illustration.
